I'm back. It has been over three months but I'm returning to blog bout everything. I just wanted to comment on the case of Kelley Williams-Bolar. The Ohio woman had been jailed because she lied to school officials bout the residency of her two daughters. She had been given 10 days more importantly felony conviction. Now, she cannot become licensed to teacher for special need children. Valerie Strauss of the Washington Post doubts that she is the modern day Mrs Parks. I believe her sentence was too harsh. She should not be denied to be teaching. Her case is the textbook example for school choice. if the money would follow her children instead of the schools, this situation could have been avoided. She is no Mrs. Parks, she could have moved her kids to her father's residence or applied to other schools in neighboring districts, but her problem demonstrates the growing problems in our educational system.

Fall election predictions

I know it has been about six months since my last blog, but I promise to give you more posts in the future. I would like to post my predictions for today. In North Carolina, the only incumbent House member that will fall is Mike McIntyre (D), and Larry Kissell (D), all others will win. Richard Burr (R)will retain his Senate seat easily, the Dems gave up on Elaine Marshall soon after her primary win. The Dems will lose control of the House, but retain control of the Senate with a net loss of 7 seats. That is it. I will post my reaction Thursday night. I miss all of you guys!

Black and White again

CNN did a story last week on the results of a study about race with young kids. The kids were asked after looking a series of drawings of dolls where they only differed by skin tone. All kids had a favorable bias toward the white dolls, with white kids having a much stronger bias toward white dolls. I wrote about a filmmaker who depicted the famous doll study done by researchers in the 1940's. It doesn't look like much has changed since that study. This study differed that the previous ones in that white kids were surveyed as well as black kids. I think that this story should open some compelling questions. After almost 60 years post-Brown vs the Board of Education, where blacks have made some of the greatest advances in human history, why is this negative impression on blacks still prevalent? What are we doing as parents, brothers, sisters, consciously and unconsciously to promote this attitude? What aspects of American society and culture maintain and spread this viewpoint? If going to school, work, and living in the same neighborhoods do not mitigate this attitude, what can be successful? These are questions we must answer in the coming years as the country gets browner and browner.

White Sorority Wins Sprite Step-Off (sort of)

A few weeks ago, there was a national step-show competition in Atlanta. One of the finalists were Zeta Tau Alpha, a predominatly white sorority from the University of Arkansas. For those of you who don't know, stepping is a rhythmic series of stomps and claps used in a dance form. Stepping has been performed by predominantly Black fraternities and sororities for decades. Many times, these organizations will perform step shows, where they promote their group and put down (mostly playfully) the other organizations. Anyway, the white sorority won which caused an uproar with Blacks not only at the competition, but across the country in barber shops, beauty parlors, online chat rooms, and talk radio. Look at the reaction when the winner was announced

I am a fellow Black Greek and I looked at the winners and runners up performances. The Zetas kept it simple and did a little better. However, after the uproar, Sprite, the corporate sponsor of the show, "discovered" judging discrepancies, and awarded first place to both the Zetas and the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority who came in 2nd place.

This scenario sounds like it was ripped out of the TV docudrama of the week. You know the movies where some outsiders (usually someone black) overcomes obstacles and succeeds in an area usually reserved for whites. Later, during the credits, it is pointed out that the achievement had been taken away or minimialized by whites. In this case, it is reversed. If we are truly going to "overcome", we have to accept it will be mutual transitions. As blacks and other minorities continue to break through barriers in fields usually reserved for whites. Whites will do the same things in areas usually reserved for minorities. You can't have it both ways. Applaud people who break down barriers fairly on both sides. The AKA lost a close competition. When I was involved in stepshows, I always thought my frat won too. You just suck it up, and try to win next time. Let's continue to move forward people, not go backwards.

Anita Baker Avoids Jail

I am back! I will be blogging on a regular basis now through the rest of the year. My first post is about one of my favorite singers of all time. I cannot believe that Anita Baker is being forced to give half of her royalties to her ex-husband for albums made during their 20 year marriage. Did he write anything, sing in the studio, go on stage with her? Their kids are basically grown and she should pay to support them, but I think that this guy needs to get a job and stop draining Ms. Baker. However, if she signed an agreement as part of their divorce to give him half, I guess the courts will force her to cough off the dough. It is a shame that they could not work out a 20 year marriage. It would have been definitely cheaper for her to keep him.

Rest in Peace Michael Joseph Jackson (1958-2009)

The world lost its last superstar entertainer, Michael Jackson yesterday in Los Angeles. He was 5o years old. I think he was the last in line of great pure entertainers from William "Bojangles" Robinson, Sammy Davis Jr, and Michael Jackson. We will never see any artist attain the type of success like "Thriller". The music world has changed drastically. Most young people download songs that they like and don't really buy albums anymore. Like many people of my generation, I grew up with Michael Jackson. In the 80's, there was a great debate whether you were a Prince person or a Michael Jackson person. Even though I preferred Prince, I respected Michael Jackson's talent greatly. Unfortunately, his racial self-hatred and obession with young boys ruined his career. I hope that he has found the peace that escaped him in this world. Rest in peace.

I am sorry that I have not been blogging the last few months, but I had a lot of issues going on that I may post about someday. Anyway, it is great to be back online. I have missed my blogging cohorts the last few months.

The reason I am posting today is to simply give kudos to Miss Carrie Prejean, the runnerup on the past Miss USA paegant. She inspired me to finally get back online and post. I think it is great how she stood up for her beliefs and did not cave in to political correctness when she was asked that horrendous question by Perez Hilton.

The extreme gay activists who promote same-sex marriage were really revealed this past week. The hatred expressed by Perez Hilton online and on TV shows this week was remarkable. Who peed in his Kool-Aid? I hope that Americans got to see that these activists are the ones who are intolerant, not conservatives. Miss Prejean, with love and respect, stood up for traditional marriage. Mr Hilton went nuts and acted like a complete idiot. He needs to publicly apologize to Miss Prejean.

The truth about same-sex marriage is coming out. The main reason is not about rights as far as inheritance, medical power of attorney, health care benefits. These issues have been mainly solved through legal changes, civil unions, and many companies have expanded their benefits. The goal of same-sex marriage is to legitimize an immoral lifestyle. If you have all of the rights which you complain that you lack, what does a "piece of paper" accomplish? It validates your immorality. If what you are doing is not wrong, why are you guys fighting so hard for the right to marry?

The Dream Continues

Today, we honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. for his life of service. He used his remarkable God given skills to help America uphold its creed of "All men are created equal" from its Declaration of Independence. The election of Barack Obama is truly a fulfillment of a part of King's Dream. The American people voted for or against Barack Obama based on his political promises. Very few voted because of the color of his skin. I think we all can sit back and look at this mark on American history with great pride. It is amazing that only 50 years ago, most white Americans did not think that blacks and whites should marry, go to the same schools, or eat in the same restaurants. Now, a majority of whites voted for an African-American to become the 44th President. We should use today to reflect on this stellar achievement in the history of our country. Again, America is on the forefront for freedom and equality. God Bless the USA!

Too many people have died for your right to cast a ballot. For 21 months, the politicians, pundits and the press have had their say. Today, the everyday American citizen has their say. Do not let the spinmasters control this election. Ignore the polls, you determine the outcome of this election, not the pollsters. My predictions for tonight:

President- I am afraid that the downturn in the economy, Obama press protection, and an ineffective campaign by McCain will enable Barack Obama to win pretty handily. I think Obama will barely win N.C.

U.S. Senate- I don't know who ran a worse campaign, Sen Dole or Sen McCain. Sen Dole will go down in defeat tonight. Kay Hagan will ride on the Obama coattails.

Governor- This will be the only bright spot for the NC GOP. I believe that McCrory will eek out a narrow victory over Beverly Perdue. Perdue is the only Dem who ran a bad campaign, while Pat McCrory was the only GOPer besides BJ Lawson to run a good campaign.

U.S. House- In my district, incumbent David Price faces BJ Lawson. I really liked and voted for Lawson. He has run the best campaign against Price since his loss in 1994. However, the demographics of the district (heavily liberal Democrats) practically ensure David Price's re-election.

In Congress, the Dems nationally will pick up 30 seats in the House, and fall 1 seat short from 60 in the Senate. Statewide, all Dems will win except for the race for State Auditor and Agriculture Commisioner. But, please vote before 7:30 pm tonight in NC.

mccain finally fights

We having been waiting, begging, and pleading for John McCain to make the case against Sen. Obama for about six months. I feel a James Harris moment coming on. He has finally begun to make a coherent attack about "spreading the wealth". I wish that McCain would have started this before the convention. I think that McCain should keep hammering that if you think the economy is bad now, wait until Barack and his Dem buddies get into office. How can you move up with a rising tax bill? Joe Biden almost guarantees an immediate crisis soon after Barack takes office and he needs help. I don't know if it is too late (I believe it may be). I wish McCain hammered this message from the convention forward. Now, it looks like he is grasping at straws.

For the record, I don't care about how much Sarah Palin's outfits cost. I care about the future of our country. Who can defend this country and its way of life? Who can promote freedom and economic opportunity? I am sure that everyone involved on both tickets have received an upgrade in wardrobe since 2007. What does it matter if the RNC or the millonaires themselves pay for them? I don't know what the next 6 days will be like, but if you live in NC, you need to vote now!! Don't wait until the 4th.

The Party Is Almost Over for McCain

Colin Powell has endorsed Barack Obama on Sunday. While many of the right has criticized his announcement, I think the GOP needs to take notice of this announcement. The GOP needs to get back to basic conservatism: family values, economic discipline, and strong military. I disagree with Gen. Powell's views on the Supreme Court, but I agree that the party is getting too narrow. I believe if the GOP gets back on being consistent on these basic principles and relate how those principles better American lives. The problem in this election is the selection of John McCain. I stated in a previous post what he needed to do for the last debate. The first 30 minutes were excellent, he shook Obama up a little bit. However, when as the debate continued, McCain let Obama off the hook. I think the reason is that Sen. McCain is passionate about some conservative issues, but he doesn't care about many others. It is obvious he just tows the party line on issues such as health care and abortion. Obama left so many openings that McCain could have attacked but he did not.

Sadly, the lack of a comprehensive strategy to go after Obama, the economic downturn, and the protection of Obama by the mainstream media has contributed to McCain's woes. I don't believe he can overcome these obstacles in two weeks. I am afraid that Obama will become the next president in 2 weeks. Maybe, McCain can perform another miracle

My Advice For McCain tonight

This is the last debate tonight. I hope that McCain will save himself tonight by asking Sen. Obama these few questions. The moderator will never ask these:

1) Senator Obama, you always state that is wrong to question your character. However, you are seeking the most powerful position in the world. The voters will be paying your salary, so you should be held accountable. Regarding William Ayers, can you explain why your story about your relationship with him has changed constantly? Also, I am guessing that you stand with me in attacking terrorism. Why have you not condemned Ayers when he made those unrepentant remarks after 9/11/2001? Why wait when you are in the midst of a presidental run? Why did you not separate yourself from him after 2001?

2) We are facing tough economic times. We have learned from previous history that when we raise taxes and increase protectionism during recessions that they may become depressions. Explain to the American people, why you support tax increases and changes to previous free trade agreements? No waffling!

3) In this current financial crisis, there are plenty of culprits to blame. Will you hold those accountable in seeking criminal charges and removal from committees and various posts? Will you be able to seek the investigation of the role of Sen. Chris Dodd and Rep. Barney Frank in the Freddie Mac/Fannie Mae debacle? Will you seek their removal from their chair positions upon winning the White House? Will you seek charges on your advisors Jim Johnson and Franklin Raines? Will you force these CEO's to repay the American taxpayer or provide funding for displaced workers? No waffling!

4) Let's get back to associations. In March, you said that you could not disown Rev Wright anymore than your grandmother. After a series of speeches, you disowned him. However, Rev Wright did not say anything different than what was captured in the initial loop of sermons which you commented on earlier. Was this disowning just part of a political game? I find it hard to believe as many Americans that you did not hear about these inflammatory topics from other members of your church through the years. Can you explain how you or your wife could go to a church for 20 years and never hear anything about these comments from anyone?

I would conclude with this statement:

My fellow Americans, in less than 3 weeks you will be asked to make an important choice on the future of our country. Sen Obama believes that the same government that cannot get your packages shipped overnight will be able to provide you first class healthcare. He believes that raising taxes during an economic downturn will help you. He believes a premature withdrawal from Iraq will make you safer. He refuses to acknowledge his strong associations with radical left wingers. He refuses to go after members of his own party who helped to contribute to this mortgage meltdown. I believe in you America. I will keep your taxes low, cut out government waste, and go after these fools in both parties who caused this financial mess. I will promote innovation in energy and health care. My opponent will stifle it. I will go after our enemies until the job is done and protect our troops. We have a distinct choice. We can implement policies to retain our greatness and freedoms or we can let government take over every aspect of our lives. The choice is yours America. Thank You.

Palin Is Trying to Lose Election

The GOP presidential ticket is seeing their numbers going into freefall. As I write this post, the Dow is down 500 points today. What is the strategy for the twin mavericks? Attack Obama's connection with Bill Ayers. The McCain-Palin ticket does not get it. No one cares about that now. People care about losing their jobs, retirement savings, and their homes. Unless, the McCain-Palin ticket can demonstrate that they can get us out of this economic mess, they will lose going away. Palin redeemed herself somewhat during the debate (even though I feel that she lost it). The temporary gains are being fritted away, by this line of attack. It gives Obama the opportunity to play the victim and go on the high road. He can afford to do this since the numbers are trending his way. The McCain-Palin ticket needs to get a handle on the economy and communicate that to voters quick or face a landslide loss.

Debating to a Draw

The Friday night fight was conducted by the two candidates last night. Both men moved around and threw some jabs, but most of the fight was highlighted by holding and clinching. I felt that Sen. Obama started off with good shots with the domestic questions. The big question for Sen. McCain is how will he cut spending when he voted for most of these inflated budgets over the last eight years? Sen. Obama avoided stating any programs or policies that we will delay due to the increasing deficit. McCain did not press him on it. As the debate turned to foreign policy, McCain got his groove back. He chided Obama for his lack of support for the surge, his statement on meeting with dictators without preconditions. However, I think that Obama scored some points by pressing McCain on the Bush administration failure to finish the job in Afghanistan. Overall, I think Obama succeeded in looking presidential without making any major gaffes. McCain demonstrated that he knows more about foreign policy,but his answers for domestic problems is still shaky. McCain needs to make a stronger case for continuing tax cuts in a down economy. He needs to show why Obama's plans for increased spending and tax increases will continue the economic slowdown. I rate round one as a draw and looking forward to the next two debates.

McCain Ends GOP Convention with some salad

John McCain went through his life story again. After filling the convention with one of those 72 ounce steaks that restaurants dare you to finish, Sen McCain threw in a more balanced meal Thursday night. He had some red meat, but he threw in some veggies and a little bit of dessert to the Dems.

McCain cannot match the speaking ability of his running mate, but he did better with the teleprompters than usual. I believe that the GOP hurt themselves last night. The attacks on Obama were over the top. Any criticism about his stand on issues is fine, but the sarcastic attacks on Obama's work as a community organizer were unfair and strident. The GOP looked like a bunch of rich guys and gals who wrap themselves in the flag and look down on the masses. I think Sen. Obama should be commended for his early work in Chicago. Isn't that what conservatism all about? People at the local level finding solutions to the problems, not looking to Washington for a handout. I certainly do not agree with Sen. Obamas positions, but the mocking of his community work was too much to bear. I am greatly disappointed.

McCain Rolls the Dice

Well, it looks like that John McCain is not washed up yet. Yesterday, he selected Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate for President. I think this is a good pick with some risks involved. However, McCain needed to do something to energize the GOP base, and this nomination achieves this. I have been critical of the GOP for the last couple of years. The party has been getting too staid, and fixed in their positions. Before this pick, the party looked old, the candidate looked old. I did not believe that the GOP would not have any energy at their convention. I told people that McCain needed to get someone out of the box to energize his campaign. Palin is definitely an out of the box pick. He has achieved the best of both worlds, he picked someone with strong conservative views to satisfy the base and also he can run as a "change" candidate by stressing reform of Washington. This aspect will attract independents. However, there are risks in this pick. Palin is a virtual unknown. She will have to convince us that she is comfortable in addressing issues with diplomacy, terrorism, and nuclear proliferation. The Dems will attack her as inexperienced and out of her league. Can she handle an international crisis or incident? What will be her reaction to a domestic crisis such as the housing problems, national debt, entitlement programs or natural disasters? This election will be historic and the most interesting one since 1992. I am going to enjoy this!

Black Men: Time to Stand UP!!

This is a short post for now. I will be writing a more detailed one later. I believe this is the time and the place for Black men to stand up in America. We have not been doing the things that we need to do as men. The foremost is taking care of our children, as Senator Obama discussed on Father's Day (more on that in a later post) and protecting our women from the perverts, predators, and sorry dogs out there. Cobb has a petition for Black males to sign that we will protect our mothers, daughters, and wives. He also suggests a boycott of R. Kelly and other people who abuse and degrade our women. Please sign his petition as soon as you can. Take a stand Black Man, take a stand!!!!

Please vote today if you are a citizen in the state of North Carolina. I am giving my endorsements and predictions for today's races. I will only do the contested races for both parties. I can only vote in the Dem race since the GOP in Durham is so weak and pathetic, they don't run any candidates.

U.S. President: I endorse Barack Obama over Billary. We need a change from the Clintons.

Prediction: Obama by 10-12%

NC Governor: I endorse Bev Purdue. Richard Moore has ran a pretty negative campaign. I liked how she pulled her negative ads. Prediction: Purdue by 10-12% GOP: I believe Pat McCrory will win but he will probably be in a runoff.

NC Lt. Governor: I endorse Walter Dalton. I predict that he will win as well. GOP: Robert Pittenger

US Senate: I endorse Kay Hagan. She will also win in a landslide

Durham DA: I endorse Freda Black, but I think it will be a runoff between her and Tracey Cline

Durham School Board: Other two seats unopposed, I endorse Leigh Bordley and I predict her to win

Durham County of Commissioners: Michael Page, Becky Heron, Ellen Reckhow, Josh Parker, and Brenda Howerton. I believe these are your winners as well.

NC Superintendent of Instruction: I endorse Eddie Davis, but June Atkinson will win

State Auditor: I endorse Beth Wood and she will win the primary

State Labor Commissioner: I endorse Robin Anderson, but Mary Donnan will probably win.

Insurance Commissioner: I endore Wayne Goodwin, he will win in a landslide

State Treasurer: I endorse David Young, he will probably win

Court of Appeals: I endorse Jim Wynn and John Tyson, they will both win

The Election So Far

Hello, I have been gone for a while, but now I am back for the political campaign. This election cycle has certainly been very interesting. The Democratic race has really been a good one to follow. Sen Obama has stunned Billary and is getting ready to wrap up the nomination. I believe that there are three good reasons why this has happened

1) Message- Hillary has ran her campaign as a replay of the 04 election. Could she or her staff not see the results on the '06 election. Voters on the left really want changes. If she had retracted her Iraq vote early, talked more about health care, mortages, and taxes, she would have had a better chance.

2) Personality- This aspect was probably the most important reason for Obama's upset. Hillary is just not very trustworthy or likeable. We have seen that the Clintons will do or say anything to get or retain power. Obama presents liberalism with a sunny optimism that has been missing from Democratic politics for a long time. His cool and personable demeanor, physical attractiveness and youth has propelled Obama to the front

3) Bill Clinton- The biggest mistake that the Clintons made was to believe that all Dems and liberals love Bill and are willing to start a third term for him through Hillary. People did not want Bill removed from office, but people are tired of all of the spin, parsaring of words, and phoniness of the Clintons. The tricks of using surrogates to make personal attacks on Obama backfired. All it did was remind people of their arrogance and diviseness. It made people think, do we really want to go back to this or do we want a new start since both candidates agree on all of the major issues?

Yes, I am predicting Obama will win the nomination. His momentmum is too strong for the Clinton machine to overcome. He will win Texas, lose closely in Ohio, win Vermont and Rhode Island. After this point, there will be too much pressure on Hill to stay in. The remaining 10 states are not favorable to her. I believe Pennslyvania is the only state that she would have a chance of winning. Obama would have won 27 states by then, with the likelihood of winning 35-36 states in the end. Hill wants to have a political life after 2008, so she will reluctantly step down. Plus, if Obama loses, she will be the frontrunner in 2012.

Barack vs Hillary: Race Wars

I am certainly not endorsing either candidate, but I have been greatly amused by the ongoing battle between Sens. Obama and Clinton. I find it delightful that the Clintons have fallen victim to one of the left wing media's greatest weapons the race card. The mainstream media have taken bits and pieces of comments by Bill and Hill and their stooges over the last week and made them into racial epithets. The liberal press usually performs this tactic to Republicans and conservatives. We have seen this tactic used against Trent Lott, George Allen, and numerous other Republicans. The media takes a piece of a statement, twist it into appearing racist and run with it. I am no supporter of the Clintons, but I agree that both of their statements were taken out of context and the pro-Obama, anti-Clinton elements of the media ran with it.

This controversy is so amusing because the Clintons are masters of using this tactic against their opposition, now they are getting a taste of their own medicine. The mistake that the Clintons are making is that their surrogates are keeping the story alive. BET founder Robert Johnson made reference to Obama's admitted drug use at a Clinton rally Sunday. Last night, when Obama and Clinton declared a truce, old Charlie Rangel (D-NY) stated how he thought that Obama's remark about Hillary's MLK comment was "absolutely stupid." Look for this issue to continue through tonight's debate. This issue is dividing the party and giving the GOP good ammunition to use in the fall. Keep fighting Dems!

I am back after a 4 month absence. I have got my groove back and I plan on blogging on a regular basis again. I have so much to talk about namelythe upcoming presidential campaign, the Duke lawsuits, and the James Johnson case. Also, I will blog about any musing about pop culture, race relations, and sports. I would like to mention that today is the 145th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation. While the importance of this document has been trivialized over the last 25 years. It was an important first step in ending the Civil War and the horrible institution of slavery. I wonder sometimes about my ancestor's reaction to the document. I can imagine the jubilation on their faces when it was announced that they were free. Because of the determination and preserverance of my ancestors, I am able to blog with you guys today in the greatest country in the world.

As finally noted by the mainstream press, thousands of Blacks descended upon the infamous little town in Louisana known as Jena. Protestors arrived to express their outrage concerning the harsh treatment of six black teenagers who beat up a white teenager last December. The racial violence came about from the attempt of black students at Jena High School to integrate a tree on campus used as a gathering place for white students. A series of nooses were hung by the tree after blacks tried to gather around the tree. Many fights occurred in the aftermath, with white students being charged with misdeamonors or not being charged at all. The black teenagers were initially charged with attempted murder and conspiracy to attempt murder. However, many of these charges have been dropped or reduced. The one student who was convicted had his sentence thrown out by a higher court last week. Why are people protesting? The DA overreached in this case. The charges against the black teenagers were unusually harsh, but none of the whites have been charged with felonies. I usually don't agree with the race pimps Sharpton and Jackson, but they are right about this one.

There seems to be a flurry of overzealous prosecutors lately. The case of Genarlow Wilson in Atlanta, the Duke lacrosse case, and the James Johnson case. I hope that people do not forget the James Johnson case. This case has not caught the attention of the national press or the blogosphere, but it is a far worse case of injustice. I have written a previous post on the case and his trial has been continued to Sept 24th. I plan on going to the trial on Monday and I will blog about it later. Please keep this young man in your prayers. He has been in jail under $1 million dollar bond for 3 years. The killer/rapist is in jail under a life sentence. He not only confessed to the crime but he exonerated Mr Johnson, yet Mr Johnson is still in jail. The worse thing about these cases is that they will continue to inflame the racial rifts that we have in America. Racists on each side will use these cases to sustain their biogotry. We must pray that we can continue to rise up as a nation, and give every citizen equal access under the law.

Justice for James Johnson

In Wilson, NC, we have another case of an out of control DA office. On June 28,2004, an 18 year old high school soccer star was abducted at gunpoint while shopping. Brittany Willis was raped and murdered by a two-bit thug Kenneth Meeks. However, three suspects were arrested. One of the suspects, James Johnson is currently still in jail after nearly 3 years. He is currently under $1 million dollars bond.

Mr Johnson is awaiting trial. His hearing date is July 23. Mr Johnson helped the police by turning in his "friend", Kenneth Meeks. Initially, Meeks fingered James Johnson as an accompliance. Later, Meeks recanted his accusation and confessed to being the sole person responsible for the murder. Meeks even admitted he implicated Johnson to get back at Johnson for turning him in. Johnson knew about the crime because Meeks told him about it while riding around in Ms Willis stolen SUV. Meeks showed Johnson the weapon and the site where Ms Willis' body was hidden. Despite the lack of any evidence linking Johnson to the murder, and a confession by the rapist/murderer, Mr Johnson remains in jail under a million dollar bond.

The prosecutors are going forward anyway. The only things that they have is a shaky eyewitness account from a now deceased elderly woman which doesn't match the time frame of the crime and Meeks' initial accusation which has been recanted. The state NAACP recently held a rally for Mr Johnson. Usually I don't agree with the NAACP, but in this case their protests are warranted. I will continue to follow this case, I hope to talk to Johnson's lawyer and a UNC law professor who has been following the case. Nifong Turns In Notice, What is Next for Durham?

Well, Mr Nifong has finally turned in his notice this morning. Mr Nifong could have spared us the cost and time of a hearing, by dismissing the case last summer and resigning.

Now the bigger picture is how will Durham react in the aftermath? While I cannot speak for everyone, I believe the town will go on divided by race. Whites will continue to press for any criminal charges and civil lawsuits against Nifong. I think that many Blacks want to see this saga over with and some will voice this opinion. The government officials are already trying to cover their backsides with investigations and panels. The next cycle of local elections will be interesting. How will current mayor Bill Bell fair? I believe that Duke lacrosse supporters will try to engine his defeat. Even though, the mayor did not say anything directly in support of the accuser, he had the unfortunate luck of sitting beside Nifong at the infamous NCCU forum following the first DNA results. He never called for Nifong's resignation. His calls to investigate the Durham police only came after the state Attorney General's report clearing the players when it was clear that the lineup and the flyers were illegal.

The big test for the city will be when another high profile case occurs where the accused are black and the accuser is white and their is reasonable doubt on the behalf of the accused. But this is Durham, almost everything around here is determined by race, it will sadly be business as usual.

An open letter to our current, bumbling DA in Durham

Dear Mr Nifong,

I am writing you on the behalf of a new organization, Concerned Black Citizens Of Durham, about your performance as District Attorney for our fair-weathered city of Durham. Ok, I am the only member of this organization, but has that stopped anyone before?! Anyway, I am requesting on the behalf of my organization and other citizens of Durham that you immediately tender your resignation.

My group initially tried to give you the benefit of the doubt in the Duke lacrosse rape case. We waited patiently for the DNA results to come back indicating a Duke player as a suspect. After all, you told us that the players were a bunch of hooligans. At NCCU, you told us that you were certain that a rape took place. You implied that there was no way that a little black girl would be attacked by some rich elitist white boys and get away with it. Even after the first round of DNA test failed to match a player, we gave you more time to complete your investigation and to perform another round of tests by voting for you in the primary.

When the three players were indicted, our group was uncomfortable with the fact that one of the accused had a strong alibi of their whereabouts during the supposed attack. We were also disturbed by the kid glove treatment the other stripper received on previous charges. Over the summer and fall, we learned that the accusing stripper went back to work a few days later, that you as the lead prosecutor never talked to the accuser. The accuser was never administered a lie detector test. And the biggest thing, you hid evidence that helped the defense! Our group did not vote for you in the general election. Unfortunately, our choice fell a few hundred votes short (thanks Steve Monks)!

Now you are under investigation from the state Board for ethics violations. You were forced to give the case to a special prosecutor. Our group feels that we cannot trust you anymore. We fear the outcome of any case in which a citizen prosecuted by you who does not have the resources to fight you like the lacrosse players. The latest Duke rape case is a good example. Is the accused in this case treated like the lacrosse players? Is this a make-up case to get back in good graces with the Duke community? Will the victim be treated better or worse than the lacrosse accuser? All of these questions should not arise in any future criminal case involving Duke students. The only way to ensure this is for you to tender your resignation. Do not continue to drag the city in this quagmire just for your own ego. Our own governor even wants you out. You won your little election, just step down now! The city will be able to go on. The justice system in Durham would operate without this lingering cloud of suspicion. Do the right thing for yourself and Durham, resign effective today!

Today is the day! This is the day where the citizens hold the power and get to be heard. I would advise anyone not to squander it. Too many people have sacrificed for you to get and maintain the right to vote. We have troops in Iraq and Afghanistan defending it. Don't let these people down! I am getting ready to vote in about another hour. Since I am a political junkie, today is like Christmas to me. I look forward to following the results online, listening to the various pundits. I hope that Chris Matthews, Katie Couric and Georgie Klintopoulous have down faces after midnight tonite. As I said before, I have problems with the GOP, but it beats the alternative. Do not let the MSM convince you that your vote is not needed. We need everyone today! If you don't vote today, I don't want to read about you blogging about how terrible everything is tommorrow. It is put up or shut up time.

Of course, being from Durham, I am looking forward to the DA race. As I have already posted, look for Nifong to keep his job. Mr Nifong has not spent any money on TV or radio because he knows that he has this election in the bag. It is simple math. He knows he has 90-95% of the black vote, in this county that is about 50-60% of the total vote depending on turnout. He also has some white liberal friends who continue to support him. The anti-Nifong vote is split. Congratulations, Mr Nifong, you get to continue your incompetence! I hope that I will be proven wrong, but I doubt it.

Political Endorsements and Predictions

Since I live in Durham, North Carolina, tommorrow's election will not have much clout on a national scale. The Durham/Chapel Hill area is totally controlled by the Democrats. The Republican party in this area is practically non-existent. Therefore, most of the Democrats on the ballot are running unopposed or the GOP nominees are so weak that they are invisible. So, Rep David Price (D-NC 4th district) will win with 70% of the vote. All of our state representatives in my district are Dems running unopposed, so it is no need to mention them.

The only race that matters is the District Attorney race. Everyone and their mother will be watching this result. I have recently concluded from all of the additional evidence (or lack of evidence) and reports, that Mike Nifong needs to go home. If you looked at my earlier posts, I was more than willing to give the DA the benefit of the doubt in the Duke lacrosse case. However, I kept waiting for more evidence to be present to collaborate the accuser's story and guess what, there has not been a lick of new evidence! When you even have 60 Minutes questioning the case, you know that there is nothing there. I feel that Mike Nifong got caught up in the headlines and hype when the case was first reported. This case was going to make him a superstar. I believe he was still smarting that he did not get to participate in the prior trial of the century in Durham, the Michael Petersen case. This rape case was a chance to show all of his doubters that he had what it takes to be the top dog. Also, he was facing a tough primary where he was facing his nemesis, Freda Black, who was the star of the Petersen trial. He needed to secure the black vote, and increase his name recognization.

The certainity which Nifong spoke when the case first surfaced, let me ( and I am sure many others) that Nifong had strong evidence to place charges on some of the players. Yet, the first round of DNA tests came up empty. Then, Nifong did the most despicable thing so far. At a forum at North Carolina Central ( a historically black university), he strongly affirmed that he believed a rape took place and some privileged kids were not going to get away with it. The worst thing is at the time, he knew the initial results, he knew the shaky procedures that the police used to get an identification, and he had not talked to the victim yet! ( which he still has not) Nevertheless, he exploited the anger and fear among the black community to secure his election.

Over the next few months, I patiently waited for more evidence to surface. The evidence which Reade Seligmann presented which obviously places him outside of the crime scene is damning. Yet, Nifong won't even drop the charges against him. I think even the most supportive Nifong fan knows that Reade Seligmann was not involved in any way. Nifong's prosecutorial conduct has been atrocious, I hope not to ever get on his wrong side.

Now, the question becomes who will I vote for. Steve Monks is available as a write-in candidate. He is the "chairman" of the local Republican party. That fact should disqualify him by itself, as I mentioned earlier the ineptness of the GOP in this area. I feel like that he should have gotten someone to run in the primary. Yes, I know this would have happened before the rape case, but I think this office is too important to run unopposed. Monks also has very little criminal trial experience as well. The other candidate is Lewis Cheek. Cheek is a private attorney and currently a Durham County Commissioner. He also lacks criminal trial experience and he was recruited by citizens who were upset about the Duke case. He does not plan to serve if elected. That is the problem that I have with Mr Cheek. I think if he knew that he was not going to run, he should have endorsed Mr Monks. However, I feel that Mr Cheek is trying to have it both ways. If he loses, he can say if he runs for re-election for County Commisioner, that he didn't want the office, others just put him up. If he wins, he can say that he was just a vehicle to get rid of an overzealous DA. I don't like my choices, so I will hold my nose and vote for Mr. Cheek, because he seems a more viable alternative to get rid of Nifong. Unfortunately, I believe that Nifong will survive as he will get almost all of the black vote and enough of the white vote to remain in office.

Other predictions

The GOP will barely hold on to control of the House and the Senate by 1 seat each. Most of the MSM is underreporting the GOP turnout. I have problems with the GOP on spending, immigration, and some of the decisions in Iraq, but they are better than the alternative! Who wants 2 years of hearings, charges, and accusations.

The MSM will spin the results as a win for Dems as they almost gained control after 12 years. However, they will scratch their heads to figure out how they can be wrong for the sixth year in a row.

Getting Off the Obama Train

It is crazy how the MSM has been going cuckcoo for Sen. Barack Obama (Ill.) over the last few weeks. In my opinion, Obama is like a tanner, thinner version of the Breck girl John Edwards. The press believes that if we can fool the American people with a concealed agenda and pretty packaging. Americans did not buy it with John Edwards, and they will not buy it with Barack. Part of the reason why many people hate politics is because there is no true debate of ideas. If liberals could simply state and run on their true positions, Americans can really evaluate which ideas they like better. When you have someone like Obama, who speaks at the DNC convention of One America, but you know that he supports unlimited affirmative action that divides us. He speaks of One America and American values, but he supports unlimited and unchecked illegal immigration. Over the weekend, Obama was the darling of Meet the Press, but Russert did sting him over his vote against Chief Justice John Roberts:

MR. RUSSERT: You talk and write a lot about bipartisanship, and I was quite taken by this comment about federal judges. Let me share it with you. “Because federal judges receive lifetime appointments and often serve through the terms of multiple presidents, it behooves a president—and benefits our democracy- -to find moderate nominees who can garner some measure of bipartisan support.” John Roberts, chief justice of the Supreme Court, confirmed 78 to 22. That’s some measure of bipartisan support.
SEN. OBAMA: Right.
MR. RUSSERT: And yet you voted against him.
SEN. OBAMA: Yeah. But I, but I—the—I did not support a filibuster in that situation. So the—I mean, there’s a situation where I thought John Roberts was a highly legitimate nominee. I anguished over that vote. I thought he was highly qualified for the job. I had some concerns about his record on the margins. I chose to vote against him, but I would not have supported a filibuster in that instance, because I think that he was a good nominee on the part of the Bush administration. So the point I’m making there was in the context of judicial nominations, it’s important to distinguish between somebody that you may not vote for because you’re not sure that their views on the Constitution comport with yours. That doesn’t mean that you take extraordinary measures to block their appointment, and that is a good example of it.

Remember, this guy voted against one of the most supported judges nominated by a Republican president in recent memory. More Democrats voted for Roberts than against him (23 to 21). Only the most liberal senators voted against him. But, Obama goes on as Mr Moderate Coalition Builder.

MR. RUSSERT: You do write this, and it’s a very interesting observation, “When you watch Clinton vs. Gingrich or Gore vs. Bush or Kerry vs. Bush”—so that’s ‘98, 2000, 2004--“you feel like these are fights that were taking place back in dorm rooms in the sixties. Vietnam, civil rights, the sexual revolution, the role of government - all that stuff has just been playing itself out, and I think people sort of feel like, Okay, let’s not re-litigate the sixties 40 years later.” Are you suggesting that those political players are, are the past and you represent a new generation that won’t get caught or bogged down in those kinds of debates?
SEN. OBAMA: I think, I think the categories we’ve been using were forged in the ‘60s. You know, I think the arguments about big government vs. small government, the arguments about, you know, the sexual revolution, military vs. nonmilitary solutions to problems. I think, in each and every instance, a lot of what we think about is shaped by the ‘60s, and partly, you know, the baby boomers is—are a big demographic. I write about the fact that, whether it’s the market for Viagra or how many cup holders are going to be in, in a car, a lot of it’s determined by what the baby boomers want. Our politics isn’t that different, and my suggestion is that—take the example of big government vs. small government. My instinct is is that the current generation is more interested in smart government. Let’s have enough government to get the job done. If, if we’re looking at problems, if the market solution works, let’s go with the market solution. If a solution requires government intervention, let’s do that. But let’s look at what are the practical outcomes. And I think that kind of politics is what the country’s hungry for right now.

Mr Obama supports increases in the mininum wage, teacher unions, and voted for price controls on oil prices, and refuses to let companies drill for oil, sound like small government to you?

The truth is that Obama is like many of the Democratic golden boys/girls that the MSM puts up. He has enough charmisa and looks to put on the moderate mask, yet if you take away the mask, there is nothing behind it but an empty suit. He cannot state what he truly believes because most Americans would reject it.

Another reason that Obama is not a good candidate is his lack of experience. The liberal press wailed about the lack of experience especially in foreign policy when Bush ran against Gore in 2000. Yet, no one is talking about Obama's lack of experience. Good grief, this guy has even less experience than the Breck girl did in 2004. When he was on Meet the Press, the guy could not give an intelligent answer to Russert concerning Iran, Iraq or North Korea. Our country is engaged in a war with Islamic terrorists. We are being threatened by dictators trying to secure nuclear weapons. This is not the time to hand the keys over to rank amateurs. Other bloggers such as LaShawn and Angela Winters weigh on this topic as well. If I could apply to Obama what Liberman said about Bush in 2000, "he may make a good President, but not right now!" Also, I don't know if Obama is savvy enough to satisfy the looney leftists and not scare the moderates in the Democratic party. If the Obama train is starting, leave me at the station!

Beauty and Black Girls

I was reading a column by Miami Herald columnist Leonard Pitts http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/living/columnists/leonard_pitts/15545216.htm
in which he discussed a short film created by Kiri Davis, a black female student, about the problems young black girls have with skin color. Basically, she and her friends talk about the struggles they have with skin color. The darker skinned girls talk about the standard of beauty is being light-skinned and having straight hair. Ms. Davis also recreates the famous "doll test" performed by Dr Kenneth Clark in the 1930's. This test was where black children were presented with a black doll and a white doll and asked which doll the children preferred. Most black children picked the white doll. This test was used to end school segregation in the Brown vs the Board of Education case in 1954. Ms. Davis performs the "doll test" during the documentary, and sadly 15 out of the 21 kids picked the white doll as the preferred one to play with. A couple of kids were asked why they made their choice, they simply replied that the doll was white. When asked about which doll was "bad", most kids pointed at the black doll.

The film http://www.uthtv.com/umedia/collection/2052/ displays that we as blacks still have a way to go in establishing acceptance and pride in our appearance. Mr Pitts in his column asserts that black culture namely the hip-hop culture is partly responsible for the negative views which blacks have about themselves. I agree with Mr. Pitts (which I usually do not) that the culture has been harmful. If young people only see themselves as criminals, women as sex objects and subject of awful degrading, what will their self-image will be?

The irony of this situation is that unlike the pre-civil rights era, our images are controlled by other black people. There are more blacks on television, in magazines, on fashion runways than any other time in history. If you look at the people, they represent a variety of shades of color. In fact, there are probably more prominent brown and dark skinned blacks than light-skinned blacks in the entertainment industry and mass media. Somehow, there is a disconnect between this progress and how many black girls visualize themselves. That is why this film and results are a bit disturbing to older blacks who remember a different time when dark-skinned blacks were being ostracized openly in society. Many blacks thought this battle was won in the 1970's.

I believe the answer (like many of our problems) lies in the home. While it is true that black comedians make fun of skin colors and African features, the greatest amount of predujices about skin color comes from parents and family members. While the outside world, mass media and the entertainment industry has progressed beyond skin color, a lot of the black community has not. People who have grown up believing that light skin is more beautiful and African features are undesirable, continue to pass these predujices to their children and grandchildren. Some people take out their predujices by labeling light-skinned people "white" and "not really black". Other people try to lighten their skin, add extensions to their hair, and avoid dating,marrying and having children with darker skinned people.

How many times, if you are black, have someone in your family made an offhand remark about someone being dark as "ugly" or someone light skinned as a "fine redbone"? We all know that the views of our family and closest friends can shape our self-image. The biggest step in overcoming this mindset is first awareness of our predujices. We must be careful about spreading our biogtry to our children. We must begin to teach our children that "beauty" comes in all forms, shades and sizes. Churches can help support this by stressing that we all are special because we are made in "God's image". I don't know all of the answers and I would like to invite any feedback from readers. I think that this topic is very important and has a crucial impact of the continued upward progress of Blacks in America.

A New "Race" Survivor ---Bring It On!

I started to blog about some serious news issue today, but I decided to address a growing crisis in America. I am talking about all of the outcr about the upcoming season of "Survivor" starting on September 14th. One of my "guilty" pleasures is watching some "reality" TV. I have been a big fan of Survivor since its beginning in 2000. I have watched all 12 seasons and I am looking forward to the new one. I like this twist of splitting the tribes into racial groups. This change will quiet the complainers who state that a minority cannot win a reality show because of racism. This time 3/4 of the cast will be ethnic minorities, so whose fault will it be this time if someone doesn't win? Also, they ignore the fact that Vecepia Towery(a black woman) won in season 4.
It will be interesting to see that each of these tribes will have characters in them and how they interact. Also,that viewers will be rooting for or against individuals not races.

I was not really surprised by the media overreaction to the concept. In past seasons, tribes have been divided by sex and age, this is just another gimmick to make the show more interesting. None of the other divisions caused any uproar. Race is the third rail in a lot of our dealings as Americans. Liberals are worried if the show is appropriate and that people's prejudices will be exposed for millions of Americans to see. However, these same liberal media types are quick to show their prejudices against racial groups, religious people, conservatives, and citizens outside of the Northeast, the Beltway, and Hollywood (known as "hicks") every day on the news for millions.

I am tired of political correctness. I believe people should be able to speak freely about what is on their minds. You can have an opinion on what the person has to say, but I would like some honesty in racial discussions. Many times when you have racial forums, whites are often too polite, blacks and Hispanics are too blaming for anything to be accomplished. I believe you learn more with open dialogue than with niceties. The trouble that Senator George Allen has gotten into demonstrates this. I don't see what all he said was very troubling, it probably was impolite, but not troubling. Our course, the mainstream press had a field day with it. The same press omits the comments of Hillary Clinton about Indians (the South Asian ones), Sen Byrd about being a "white nigger", or Sen Biden's comments. I guess it depends on what political party you belong to. I don't think anyone should have to apologize for their comments. People should just view what they say and weigh their opinions accordingly. So, I hope this season of Survivor is interesting and entertaining, but do not expect it to solve racial problems, it is only a stupid reality show!

P.S. I don't really care for Ray Nagin, but New York you do have a hole in the ground! Do something about it, instead of moaning and crying!

Senator Joseph Liberman may have given the GOP the biggest gift of the decade by losing his primary. Now, that old Joe has to go at it alone, he will help expose the silliness of putting Dems back in power. His stand on the war on terror will contrast with the "cut and run" liberals who run the Dems now. The times are too dangerous to hand the keys over to the "blame America" first crowd. We are facing continuing threats from al-Queida, Hamas, Hezbollah, Iran, North Korea, and China. No time for Bozos. If we do not stop these threats, our way of life will be greatly harmed. The GOP must play the national security card, it is their strength, and it is one of the few differences between the Dems and the GOP. All I have to say is go Joe, go!!!

Duke Rape Case - My Take Update

Like I said in my previous post, I am re-evaluating my take on the Duke rape case. It has been a couple of months, a lot more "evidence" has been released and one more student has been charged.

I can admit that this case doesn't look good for the DA. There are too many inconsistencies with the accuser's story about the timeline and the identification/number of attackers. Unfortunately, the DA went so far out on a limb for this case, he feels that he cannot reverse course. I believe this is a mistake. While the activists and many Blacks will be upset, I think in the end people want justice to be done. I live in Durham, and I cannot speak for all Blacks here, but it seems that there has been a shift in opinion. Not many Blacks are vehemently defending the accuser like it was back in May. There are rumbles among some people that we have been conned, another Tawanna Brawley. I think the DA is trying to be PC, but he is overestimating the outcry among the activists. Maybe some people have reconsidered their positions, like myself.

I still believe that the DA's best exit strategy would be to convince the accuser not to pursue the case, so it can be dropped. Then, Mr Nifong can go out and say that he could not continue without the accuser and go forward without the outcry. In the end, I believe that this is what will happen. I don't regret voting for Mr. Nifong. He has served the DA's office well for over 27 years. I think he got swept up in the hype of a high profile case and he starting to pursue and mimic what the MSM/activists wanted, not the facts of the case. I will probably vote for him again in November. While I personally know Mr Cheek (his opponent) and I believe that he is a good attorney, he doesn't have any experience as a criminal attorney. We have too many problems with crime in Durham to turn it over to an inexperienced DA. Anyway, La Shawn has some good points about the case as usual, so check her out!

Duke Rape Case, My Take

I have purposefully waited for the hype to die down before I blog about the Duke lacrosse rape case. Needless to say, the story has given my hometown unwanted national attention. One of my favorite bloggers, LaShawn Barber, has wrote on this case continuously. Obviously everyone with a pulse down here has been talking about it. I want to put my little two cents in....

The case itself

Like many other people, I was initially shocked when the allegations became public. I believed that a cover up may have been in the works from the amount of time from the actual incident (March 13th) and when the reports first became public. I cautioned people about the protests because we did not know much about the case. Thankfully, Duke cancelled the Georgetown game before it could be played on the 25th. The pots and pans came and from that point forward the media frenzy began. Over the next two months, we have been bombarded non stop with every type of detail in the case. I don't know what happened at that night at that house, we will hopefully learn through the criminal justice process, but my gut tells me this:

Something happened in that house besides a performance and an argument, I don't really know if it was a sexual assault.
I really doubt that this case will go to trial. I believe the stripper will not testify because she will fear that she will not be believed or she will be found out.
I don't believe that Mike Nifong is the Anti-Christ. Once news broke about the case, he had to appear actively aggressive. Unfortunately, our local media and activists turn everything in this city into a racial incident. It sells papers, increase local news rating and gives activists jobs. If Nifong did not actively pursue the case rightly or wrongly, he would have been accused of being a racist and it would have brought more activists in town. In fact, I voted for Mr. Nifong not because of this case, but he had much more experience than his rivals.
If a sexual assault occurred, the stripper probably cannot identify the culprits due to her unsteady condition. This aspect will hurt the case from ever being prosecuted.

That is my initial take. Only time will see if I am right or wrong.

The Terrorists Have Done It Now!

Uh oh, someone needs to get the memo to the terrorists, they may have made a big blunder. These "freedom fighters" (according to Ms. Cindy) mistakenly set an IED under the truck carrying ABC World News anchor Bob Woodruff. The liberals don't like it when one of their own is attacked. It is easy to say "Bush lied, Bush spied, people died", when those evil military kids are killed, but they thought that their own would be protected. After all, they are trying to help the terrorists by getting Bush impeached. The terrorists must have made a mistake, almost killing two journalist and kidnapping a female journalist. As the press has pleaded, she can help you more by reporting your side of the story! I don't want to see any innocents die, however if these recent events can get the mainstream media to realize that we are in a war, it would help our cause in the war on terror. The liberals need to accept that these terrorists are the real monster, not George W. Bush. These terrorists want us wiped off the face of the earth, young, old, Black, White, liberal or conservative. These animals will use any possible means of accomplishing this. It is time to put the politics aside, and renew our focus on the enemy that threatens us all, the Pseudo-Islamic fascists.

Nagin has done it again! Having already blamed Bush, Gov. Blanco, and FEMA for the disaster in New Orleans, the mayor has found someone else to play the blame game with: God! Yesterday, at a MLK celebration, Mr Nagin asserted that the hurricanes showed that God was mad at America and at Black America too because "we are not taking care of ourselves". It is distressing that this mayor could still be in office after the Katrina disaster. I am tired of Democratic "leaders" making such outrageous statements before predominantly Black audiences. These liberals believe that they can say anything and Blacks will accept it as the gospel. Hillary can call House GOPers people who run a "plantation" without any challenge. The libs think very little about the intellect of their Black followers. They constantly lie, exaggerate, and belittle Black audiences because libs believe that Blacks do not have the common sense to know what is the truth. Black audiences need to hold these people accountable, was it God or a lack of planning by you, Mr Nagin that worsened the Katrina disaster? Mrs. Clinton, is it your party's defense against vouchers that keep Blacks on the plantation?! Anyway, I think because of talk radio, blogs and Fox News at least Mayor Nagin is being called to the carpet. Any luck with Mrs. Clinton?

Reflections on MLK Day

I am just doing my yearly review on race today. The problem today with the Black community is the extreme lack of honesty on the part of leaders. I think that more people every year are starting to realize that many of the problems are self-inflicted. We get the civil wronged
leaders every year who blame Whites, the government for all of the problems which Blacks face. Unfortunately, none of these problems never get resolved. The truth is that many of these leaders do not want these problems solved, they would lose money and influence. These are a few solutions in my view to reverse the negative trends in the Black community. Again, these problems are not unique to Blacks, but these problems must be abated in order for our country to move on past race.

1. Recapture the importance of religion and morality. The irony in the Black community is that in many areas there is a church at every corner. Yet, some of the most violent, destructive, immoral acts occur in walking distance of these churches. Obviously, our churches are failing to influence the neighborhoods. Many times we want to have a closed salvation for us Christians. As long as we are saved, it doesn't matter that all of the people around us are sinning. Evangelism begins at home. If our pastors and other church members cannot lead the people who need salvation the most, what does that say about our faith? Marriage must be emphasized not ridiculed. Intact families with a mother and father must become a priority. Violence and death do not need to be glamourized but condemned. Hip-hop culture has further eroded our weakening moral state. Individuals choose to rob, steal, murder, use drugs, be promiscious, leave their families, the Klan and George Bush do not have anything to do with this.

2. Take advantage of being an American. The worst thing that occurs in the Black community is the constant trashing of America. This mentality is emphasized in the educational system, mass media, and of course college campuses. People need to find ways to become a part of the American economy, not spectators. This is the lesson which other ethnic groups have learned. Sure, there will always be people who do not like you because you are fill in the blank.
There will be people who will not hire or promote you because you are fill in the blank. However, there is so much opportunity in this country, you can find your way around it. We need to emphasize the importance of being employable. Finish high school, obtain a marketable skill (which is not necessarily the college route), and become an asset in whatever field you choose to pursue. No job is too low to take, get working! The free market system is the best friend for any American who is starting at the bottom. If you find something you can do better than anyone else, you can achieve great things. If you lived in a socialist nation, you place in life is set by someone else no matter hard you try. Blacks need to fight for things that promote economic freedom: free trade, quality education through the use of school vouchers, no living wage laws, and tort reform.

These are just two suggestions to enable Blacks to fulfill Dr King's dream. If we do these things, then we can focus on becoming an even greater nation. We can shout "Free At Last, Free at Last, Thank God Almighty, We Are Free At Last!!!!"

Too bad that bleeding heart liberals do not exhibit the same compassion toward the victims of violent crimes as the perps. If you are someone who is anti death penalty, why do you use a merciless thug as your poster boy? That is nice that he wrote some children's books. Only God and Jesus will be the judge if he is truly reformed. However, when you take a life in cold blood, the punishment is death. We must value human life, there is no bigger crime than to take a human life except in self-defense. I wonder how many of these Hollywood liberals would be marching if it was their own family member or a Hollywood star. Also, why is there all of this excitement about the 1,000 murderer executed. Why does 1,000 mean more than 500, or 688 or 8? I know why. The liberal media believes that they can get more Americans to share their point of view if you put a concrete number in front of them. Then the media hypes up the number as the worst thing that every could happen. Remember, 2,000 solidiers dead, 4 million people with AIDS, it is the same thing. Funny, we never hear the numbers of children killed in abortions. Michelle Malkin has the scoop of Tookie. I will continue my Tookie watch. I don't agree with those who are selling "Fry Tookie" T-shirts. I think that out of respect for the victims, we should not make a mockery of a tragic event. Supporters of the war have been waiting for months for the President and the military to defend themselves vigorously. Too bad that President Bush did not do this speech on prime time. Every American needed to hear that speech. The truth is that the Bush administeration failed miserably to educate and re-educate the American people about the rationale, progress of the war of terror. The Dems response is more of the same, we need to withdraw, but now they are saying they did not want a fixed timetable. Liars! That is all what we have heard for the past 4 months. The coward Rep. Murtha wants us out yesterday. The Dems are simply cowards. They want us out of Iraq, but they do not propose anything to stop the war on terror, or how to we get out of the Middle East. I like that the House GOP called their bluff last week, when only 3 of the libs voted for an immediate withdrawal. The Bush people need to keep this up, so that we as Americans would not go complacent and that the foolish rhetoric of the Looney Left can be answered.

Veterans and Rosa Parks

What does Veteran Day and Rosa Parks have in common? Plenty! My father was a Navy Veteran and my brother was in the Marines during the first Gulf War, so I have first-hand tremendous respect for the brave men and women who wear the uniform. The Islamic fascists are threatening our way of life. The new Iranian president would like to see us destroyed along with Israel. I love our troops and would like for them to press on and ignore the peaceniks and apologists. Keep doing the great job that our President (finally!!) spoke about today!! Because of the forefathers who beat Nazism and Japan during WWII, Mrs. Parks was able to begin the completion of the American civil rights movement. The disconnect between the values that American upholds and protects and the treatment of Blacks in America was fully put on display when Mrs. Parks refused to
give up her seat to a white patron.

However, the completion of the civil rights struggle has given liberal whites to chance to enslave Blacks. Liberal whites pressure Blacks to follow their ideology to the letter after all Blacks owe liberal whites for the Civil Rights Act, Voting Rights Act, and the War on Poverty. Many blacks do not feel like that they cannot express any views contrary to the liberal elite. It is terrible what is happening to Michael Steele. He is running for the vacant Senate seat in Maryland. His photo was doctored to look like a Sambo. He is a Republican and that is a no-no to the elite. Black liberals say that such racist criticism is justified because "party trumps race". Ok, if this is the new rule, then I don't want to ever hear any Black politician to complain in the future of racism if they are criticized. When Jesse Jackson or Rev Al start complaining about racism when criticized, the media should tell them that the new rule is "party trumps race" If we are ever to complete the work of Dr King or Mrs. Parks, Blacks must be able to have various political and economic viewpoints without being called a racist. Blacks are human beings like everyone else, shouldn't our views and ideas be diverse as every other race!

The Real Problem With Race Relations

There has been so much dishonesty in the days since Hurricane Katrina hit by the mainstream press, it has gotten out of control! Last week, Rep. Charlie "Good Time" Rangel (D-NY) compared President Bush to "Bull" Connor, a racist police commissioner in Alabama who in the 1960's hosed down and sent dogs after civil rights protesters.

Rep. Rangel not only got away with such a preposterous allegation, other race hustlers piled on President Bush as well. Rev. Al Sharpton added that "we've gone to fire hoses to levees". Rep Major Owens(D-NY) agreed that Rep. Rangel is "on the right track, this is worse than Bull Connor".
NY City Councilman Charles Barron states that "a KKK without power is not as bad as a George Bush with power." Of course, last week "Screwy Louie" Farrarkhan came through Durham alleging that Bush caused the levee to break deliberately on Blacks.

This type of rhetoric does nothing but push the races further away. The mainstream media has contributed greatly to the increase of the hatefulness of the rhetoric by giving these lunatics a platform without holding them accountable. The press is so eager to see Bush go down, that they are neglecting their basic duties as journalist to check facts. Several articles in the last couple of days, reveal the estimates of deaths, murders, and rapes have been greatly exaggerated. The media did not bother to check facts initially because the scenes from New Orleans fit their mindset perfectly. Look at all of the poor, helpless Blacks and racist Bush is not helping them. I do not believe that white liberals or black race-baiters truly do not want racial problems resolved. These groups perpetuate the worst stereotypes and hateful speech to continue to antagonize racial groups. If you try to have a honest discussion with these people about race, they are not willing to admit to any responsibility of the problems on their end. For example, we hear every day how the events in New Orleans revealed to Americans the world of poverty and racial injustice. These people did not become poor overnight or in the last five years. Why isn't the previous administration taking any blame or hits for their conditions? Wasn't the Clinton years the greatest economic time in our nation's history? Why did it skip over these people? Also, the city of New Orleans has been led by Blacks for the last thirty years. How can racism be the reason for these people conditions when the mayor, city council, police chiefs, school administrators, have been mostly black? Are Ray Nagin, Ernest and Mark Morial, Bull Connors as well? Remember, the black mayor did not follow the city and state evacution plans. The black mayor did not get the buses to get the poor people out! The Democratic white female governor kept water and food from going to the Superdome. The Democratic white female governor failed to bring in the military sooner as the city went out of control. The black police chief failed to protect citizens and business from the looters as police officers themselves participated in the looting or did not show up to work. It is amazing to see all of these Bull Connors and none of them look like a white male Republican!

We have made much progress in race relations in the last fifty years. The progress made in this country is unprecendented. Everyday, people as individuals are making even greater strides as seen in the increase in interracial relationships, the upward mobility of non-whites in various fields. However, there is still work to be done. We need to get to a point where people are judged on their content of character, not their skin color. There are still too many arenas, especially in the labor force, where people's full potential is not realized because of racial prejudice. We should not have lower expectations for any citizen of this country regardless of their race or socioeconomic background.
I don't believe that throwing more federal money at the people of New Orleans will solve anything. However, I am a realist. I believe that there will be too much political pressure to give a blank check to New Orleans. We need to ask the race hustlers and white liberals, before we pour all of this federal money in New Orleans, are you going to hold the government officials and citizens accountable? We need to make sure that this money gets to the citizens, not bureaucrats. Will you rebuild the schools to include school choice, merit pay for teachers, no tenure for teachers, and tough discipline for students? When you rebuild the homes, will you establish time limits to obtain work, rent to own programs, strong police action to cut down the immense crime? As the families return, are you willing to crack down on deadbeat parents, and have programs endorsing abstinence, chastity, and marriage?Unfortunately, most libs and hustlers are not willing to have this debate. They rather call people names and blame whites for all of their problems.

God, Not Government!

Last week, my post began to talk about the ever increasing role of government at all levels in our lives. With the cost of Katrina and the upcoming disaster named Rita, government spending will be at an all-time high. Unfortunately, politicians on both sides are quick to pull out the checkbook to gain support or to perform damage control. Politicians love to increase the role of government because it buys them job security. The government has successfully convinced many of us that the money that they have belongs to them not the taxpayer.

Yet, the talents that we use to earn a living, in my humble opinion belongs to God, not Raleigh or Washington. Once government gets into our lives, many people become dependent on them instead of living for God. What is the need to perform charitable works as Jesus instructs us if the government is supposed to pay for anything. There is no need to believe or trust in a higher power when you know that the government will provide all of your needs. Look at all of the selfish behavior that we witness on a regular basis. During Hurricane Katrina, no one in these people families' bothered to come and get their relatives out of New Orleans. Like I said in my previous posts, don't tell me that someone could not get their family out of there. But why bother to get grandma or cousin Niecy when the government is supposed to do it. Look at the conditions of the neighborhoods which the poor came from in New Orleans! The Great Society did more damage to blacks than any Klansmen ever could. The lack of nuclear families, high crime rates, and miserable schools are the result of the total dependence on government, yet the solution proposed for these people is more government!

Too much government separates us from each other as humans, and it fools us in believing that there is no need for God in our lives since the government will take care of us. If you did a study on which organizations had the most positive effect on poor people, I am certain that private charitable groups have a much better track record than state or federal programs. Don't get me wrong, government has to play a role in defense, commerce, justice. However, programs that force people out of the marketplace and into dependency are plain wrong. Jesus reminds us that no man can serve two masters, he will love one and hate the other. Too many of us are serving the master of government which causes us to separate from God. The ever increasing cost of government will soon get to a breaking point, will we go fiscally and morally bankrupt or will we begin to take responsibility for our lives and trust God?

The real lesson will be missed

As we gain some distance from the tragedy of Hurricane Katrina, I am afraid that we will miss the most important lesson which could be gained. The most important lesson is that we as Americans cannot rely on our government to do everything for us. Our federal government is already entirely too big and cubersome. Look at how long it took it to respond to the tragedy. Even though a lot of people don't want to hear it, the folks in Washington cannot and should not know what is best for you in Mississippi, New Orleans, or in Durham North Carolina. The intrusion of government in affairs that people should handle themselves has increased expenditures since the 1960s. The mayor and the governor of Louisiana failed to provide an adequate evacuation of their citizens in part due to the belief that Washington would handle everything.

The poor citizens of New Orleans were left to fend for themselves to find food, water and shelter. Their belief in government doing everything for them cost some of these citizens their lives. Again, I ask where were these people families? You cannot tell me that most of these people did not know of anyone who had access to a car in a country where most families own 2 to 3 cars! The overriding belief that government will take of you caused citizens not to prepare for natural disasters including taking out flood insurance policies. FEMA will pay for it, why should I buy insurance in a known hurricane prone, low-lying area? The ineptness of government has been shown time and time again in this crisis. Many private organizations were able to provide relief within 24 hours after the hurricane strike. These organizations probably helped more people since the crisis than any of the government programs. When will we learn that people closest to the scene or situation usually can do it better, more efficiently and less expensively than the federal government. These groups usually make sure that the people directly affected get the help not some bureaucrats.

The problem with big government is that it separates us as human being. As a Christian, I am expected to do good works with my family and community. However, most people expect the government to provide good works for them. The government doles out checks which keeps people from seeking work or to gain job skills. It has become the father in many low-income areas, thus absolving men from their responsibilities. This also provides a disincentive for women to abstain from sex before marriage. People no longer have to watch out for their aged parents or little children because the government will take care of them. The expansion of government has hurt the connectiveness that we need to maintain a decent society. People now can go off and do their own thing, be immoral, be selfish, be crude and unforgiving. In the aftermath of this disaster, there will be billions of government money given away, including a payout to the victims similar to 9/11 (which was a huge mistake). The calls for a further increase in government power will be heeded, and there will be little accountability for any of the mistakes and future mismanagement of government officials. Yes, we should help those people get back of their feet. However, it should be handled through private donations. There needs to be accountability toward where the money is going, but there won't be and that is the lesson lost here....

Views on Hurricane Katrina

Like many citizens of this country, I have been watching the coverage of Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath. I was disturbed and dismayed by the images of children and the elderly starving for food and water. I was equally upset by the scenes of looting throughout New Orleans (I am sorry if you are lugging out TVs, Playstations, and DVD's, you are looting not "finding"). The ineptness of the mayor and governor was evident from the first day post-Katrina. The federal response could have been faster as well.

The most shocking aspect was the non-stop, senseless blaming by the mainstream media before people were fed, moved to safety or rescued. In terms of wrestling, the media, left-wing wackos were so eager to get on the top rope and drop kick Bush and FEMA, the coverage almost became unwatchable. It is hard to believe that people with this much hate would use hurricane victims to score political points. However, I was relieved to see in the CNN poll yesterday, that most Americans did not blame Bush for the crisis. It was a natural disaster, people! Could have things been performed better or more timely? You betcha! Yet, the Dems could not put politics aside in order to help these victims.

Race hustlers will use the delayed response from the federal government to keep more Blacks on the plantation. Unfortunately, these events will probably hurt the strides that the GOP has made with Blacks. Can you imagine any Black pastor now openly supporting the President?! He or she would be forced to resign immediately. The poor citizens of the Gulf Coast will be used to get the race hustlers more air time, and more donations to fatten their bank accounts. The other disturbing aspect of the Katrina situation is the lack of accountability on the part of the residents. Despite the image shown in the media, I would wager that most of these blacks are not as poor as the media would like for you to believe. I believe that if you told these people that if they left the city, they would get $1000, most of these people would find a way out. I cannot believe that most of these people did not have access to any transportation. Where were the family members who had access to transportation at? My mother lives in a lower-income area, if she needed to leave, I would be down there in a heartbeat to get her. The problem is that many people in that area are conditioned to believe that they are victims. All of their problems are due to outside forces, not their own poor decisions. These people are taught not to see themselves as part of American society, but as outcasts. So when the "man" tells you to leave, you are supposed to ignore it. These are the people who are keeping you down, besides they might be lying to you. I know this is a harsh assessment, but it is based on reality. I grew out in that type of environment and I am fully aware of the predominant mentality present. Do I suggest that we don't help this people? Absolutely not! I have already donated money and will continue to donate more. I am also slated to volunteer to help with some survivors that have been moved into our area. My other fear is this disaster will be used as a catalyst for drastic increases in federal spending, the stoppage of the Bush tax cuts, and decreased committment to the war on terror, which I will talk about more later...

Dr Rice--A Victim of Politics or Racism

I was heartened to see Dr. Condoleeza Rice speak this morning to her staff at the State Department. After a torturous month, Dr Rice started her first day as the new Secretary of State. Her confirmation hearings were indeed very disturbing. The seething anger and contempt demonstrated by some Democrats not only in the Judiciary commitee but the Senate floor as well was a bit shocking. Consider that there was no question that Dr Rice would be confirmed or about her qualifications for the position. Indeed many of the Democrats want to use her and Alberto Gonazles' nominations to give Bush-bashing anti-war lectures. However, the constant subtle and sometimes blatant accusations of lying, the unexplainable delays in her confirmation causes me to believe in an underlying racial component.

Dr Rice is a threat to many liberals, because she will be very visible in her role as Secretary of State and millions of blacks will see that. All of the talk of the Clinton administration as the lovers of blacks will seem more and more hollow. People may begin to ask why aren't there any blacks in high visible positions in the Democrats? Why do we give almost 90% of our vote and we don't have anything to show for it except empty tired promises? Blacks may begin to think that we need to look at President Bush in a different light. Bush is supposed to be our enemy, but he has promoted more minorities into high profile and important positions than any liberal Democrat president has done in almost 50 years. Liberals, both black and white, hate black conservatives. Black conservatives challenge the status quo. They are walking, living proof that you don't have to follow the civil wrongs activist game plan to succeed in life. These people didn't depend on the government or the great White father on their accomplishments. Blacks are the only solid dependable voting blocks that Democrats have left. If the GOP can erode this base, the Dems will truly become a minority party. That is why the confirmation process was nasty for Dr. Rice. Liberals needed to dirty her up, maintain their monopoly. Does this mean that Dr. Rice should not have to any questions? No, but there was no need to hold up her confirmation and the patronizing tone used by some Dems on the Judiciary committee. It seems that their tactics may have backfired, there are some indications that blacks across political lines were bothered by her troubles. The Dems may have played their hand too heavy, but we will wait and see if there is any backlash.

New Year, Same Old Story

As we begin a new year, it appears that many liberals continue to live in the past. As we try to move forward into the 21st century, past the civil rights movement, many black leaders are criticizing the newly appointed leader of the Civil Rights Commission, Gerald Reynolds. He acknoweldged the work of the civil right movement in the 1960's, but in an interview with NPR, he mentions the need to move forward. One of his goals is to shift "affirmative action" from being race based to socioeconomically based. Of course, this shift has sent liberals into a tizzy, since this would endanger their livelihood. Most blacks who are qualified can get into the college of their choice. Therefore, it should be more prudent to use resources into getting these students qualified instead of lowering standards. I am not one of those conservatives who do not think that racism does not exist. Racism is a big problem in corporate America. Blacks should seek to develop their own businesses and form an alternate network for young graduates to seek employment. Unfortunately, every minority and ethnic group had to prove themselves in our capitalist society independently. Once the greater corporate world sees the profits and success generated from these businesses, they will be more willing to hire and promote blacks. This system was the same for Jews, Germans, Catholics, Italians, and other ethnic minorities. Fortunately for black Americans, our capitalist society values the green stuff over any color or nationality. This aspect should be the basis of any economic improvement or mobility. One of the most unfortunate consequences of the civil rights movement was the destruction of our economic base and family structure. The spirit of entrepreneurship was squelched by government handouts and promises of set asides. It is up to the post civil rights generation of blacks to take up the mantle and continue forward where our ancestors in the pre civil rights days left off.

In North Carolina, there will be a runoff election for Agriculture Commissioner, involving only one county where about 4500 votes were miscounted. Why should people who did not vote in this county on Nov. 2nd vote in this runoff? Is this fair?

WE did not let the media elite tell us who to vote for
WE ignored Osama Bin Laden
WE made history by giving President Bush the highest vote total in U.S. History
WE set voter turnout records in many communities including my own in Durham, NC
WE made morals and character the main issue of the election
WE did not let France, Old Europe, terrorists, China, the UN, Michael Moore, Ben Affleck, or the Boss dictate who we should choose as President

Another Black Hypocrisy under Attack!

Following up on the phony draft fraud, the Bush administration is finally attacking the National Association for the Advancement of Liberal Colored People tax-exempt status. I agree whole-heartedly with this policy. Here is the story.

BAW: Commentary: IRS investigation of NAACP is outrageous

The chairman didn’t mention Bush by name until deep into his
7,000-plus-word speech, when he noted that GWB had opposed affirmative action,
appointed a federal judge with a record of hostility toward civil rights, and
rejected the NAACP’s invitation to speak at that very convention. Altogether, 303 words were devoted to Bush and his administration per se. Bond’s only mention of John Kerry was to state that the Democratic nominee had accepted his invitation to address the convention.
This is non-partisan??? Give me a break. If the NAALCP wants to be a wing of the Dems, let them pay for it themselves.
Or what about the National Urban League? Bush did accept an invitation to speak at its annual conference. According to IRS Form 4564, “a candidate can be invited to speak at an organization function in his or her individual (non-candidate) capacity if the organization takes steps to ensure that: (1) the candidate speaks only in a non-candidate capacity…(2) neither the candidate nor any representative of the organization makes any mention of the fact that the individual is a candidate for public office or of the election in which he or she is running, and (3) no campaign activity occurs in connection with the candidate’s attendance.”
What do you do when you get your hand caught in the cookie jar? Blame it on someone else. The Urban League had both candidates to speak at their conference. It was one of Bush's best speeches. I wish that every Black voter could view it before casting their vote today. Anyway, I hope the Bush administration and the GOP continue to attack these civil right charlatans. Maybe the Black churches who have Democrats speak from the pulpits will be next......Nah, too good to be true

The Draft Foiled

I wanted to write about this earlier, but some emergency situations came up. I like what Tom DeLay and the House leadership did the expose the dishonesty of the liberal Democrats. The Democrats have been trying to get young people to register by scaring them about the draft. Remember that before the Iraq war, "Good Times" Charlie Rangel (D-NY) was going around with the Congressional Black Raucus stating that it was not fair that people of color and poor people would make up the majority of people on the front line. So Mr Charlie wrote a bill reauthorizing the draft. He assumed that no one would ever bring it to a vote, but he could go around and say how he is asking every American to make the ultimate sacrifice. When the Dems and online bloggers started to spread the idea of the reinstatement of the draft, the House GOP called them on the carpet. We need to do this more often

Two Americas

Hello, everyone this is my first post. I don't know how it will come out, but please bear with me. We have heard the term "Two Americans" by (unfortunately) my U.S. senator Johnny Boy Edwards (D-NC). I believe that we are changing into two distinct Americas but not based on income but core beliefs.

There is one part of America who believe in the American Dream. These people work hard, pay their taxes, and deeply believe that America is a great country full of opportunity. These citizens represent all incomes, races, religions, and lifestyles. I know that I am part of this group of Americans. I acknowledge that America is not perfect, no country can claim that, however there is no other country where ordinary people can rise from humble beginnings to the highest levels of society. We are the people who do the bulk of the work, create the jobs, and further the great advances in technology. We are anchored by core moral values and a sense of fairness, honesty and integrity. These people are the DOO.

However, there is an increasing number of Americans who fall in the other category. These people corrupt the American dream. They believe that America is a terrible, unfair place that owes them for their suffering. These people do not contribute to America, but they take all of the time. These people misuse and abuse government programs, and still have their hands out for more. These citizens perceive themselves as permanent victims who are due for compensation. They live their lives irresponsibly by having children they cannot afford, committing crimes and then complaining how they are "disenfranchised" when they get out of jail. Anyone who approaches them about becoming responsible adults is quickly rebuked and dismissed. They are coddled by psychobabble and guilty parents. Unfortunately, I believe that these people are the ones who are being recruited in these voter registration drives. These people are the DON'TS.

These people need to be limited in number, they are draining resources away from important aspects of our expanding society such as schools, transportation, defense, and law enforcement. They are only willing to vote for people who will give them more. The Democrats have become the party of the enablers. When did it become the job of the government to make sure your kid has enough to eat, pay for their health care and their college education? Our Social Security system cannot continue to function in its current state. Within a generation, there will be more takers than contributors. Any talk of gradual privitization is seen as "destructive" or "mean-spirited". Our country cannot continue to fund increasing benefits. We cannot tax the DOO
to death. We must practice tough love to the DON'TS. Our country has to survive. The choice to me is clear. Even though both parties cater to the DON'TS, only one party has the core values to implement tough love....it is the GOP. If you do want to continue Two Americans, vote for Kerry/Edwards.. if not vote Bush/Cheney.
